Basis for Fees
At Hester Psychology, cognitive assessments take anywhere from 8 to 13 hours to complete. This includes face-to-face assessment, scoring of tests, analysis of data, phone calls, report writing, and feedback. The entire process also includes review of documents provided, obtaining further documents, phone conversations with other individuals such as family, support team and doctors.
Fees
The cost of a cognitive assessment at Hester Psychology is dependent on a number of factors, including the purpose of assessment and level of complexity. To obtain an initial estimation of the cost, please contact us to discuss the reason behind the assessment, and your personal needs.
The fee for a comprehensive assessment is generally from $1800 for approximately 8-10 hours of work. This fee (at $230 per hour) is below the APS National Schedule of Recommended Fee (2025 to 2026) at $318/hour.
Clients who have self-managed NDIS funding or have Plan Managed funding can use their funding to pay for their cognitive assessment. Fees charged for this service are in accordance with the NDIS rates for psychologists at $232.99/hour.
Assessments are not covered by Medicare.

Payment Policy
For private clients, a 50% deposit is required to secure an assessment appointment. Remaining payment is required prior to the release of the report, unless under exceptional circumstances (at which payment is required within 14 days). Payment can be made by eftpos (please request an eftpos payment link from us) or direct deposit. Please note that a 1.15% processing fee will be charged for all consultations where eftpos payment is received by credit or debit card.
Cancellation Policy
At Hester Psychology, if you are unable to attend your appointment, please ring us to cancel as soon as possible. Late cancellation fees apply. They are as follows: cancelled within 1 to 2 business days of appointment incurs a 100% fee, as it is unlikely that we will be able to fill the spot you have booked; cancelled within 3 to 5 business days incurs a 50% fee; any cancellations over 5 business days is eligible for a full refund.
Interpreter Fees
Family members or friends are not appropriate for interpreting during cognitive assessment sessions. We are happy to arrange for a professional interpreter. Interpreter fees are to be paid by the client.
